Georgia’s Super Speeder Law
In Georgia, some speeding tickets carry with them an additional $200 penalty for a Georgia super speeder violation if convicted of traveling over excessively high speeds on Georgia roads. If you are convicted of traveling over 75 miles per hour on any 2 lane road (1 lane each direction) or 85 miles per hour on any other road or highway, you are determined to be a super speeder in the eyes of the Georgia legislature.
The $200 super speeder fee is not payable at the time your case is closed, but will be mailed to you by the Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) after they receive notice you violated the super speeder law. The notice of Georgia super speeder violation will almost always be mailed to the address on your drivers license, so it is important you always keep your drivers license address up to date. Upon receipt of the notice of violation, you will then have 120 days from the date of the notice to pay the $200 super speeder penalty or your license will be suspended.
Georgia’s super speeder law affects non-resident Georgia drivers as well. If you do not carry a Georgia drivers license and are found to be a super speeder, failure to pay the fine will suspend your privilege to drive in Georgia until the fine is paid. If a suspension of your license for failure to pay the $200 fee goes into affect, both Georgia and non-Georgia drivers license holders will have to pay an additional $50 fee to reinstate your license after payment of the $200 super speeder penalty.
Being declared a super speeder does not carry any additional points against your drivers license. It is just the $200 penalty. The $200 fee can be paid in person, by mail, or through the Georgia Department of Driver Services website.
